Has it seriously been this long? Daaaaang! I never go more than a week without blogging. So, what’s been up in my world.

I am working my favorite job ever! I love it. After blogging for two weeks, my blog was moved to the top of the list because of the response I have received. Thanks for commenting always guys. I read every single one of them!

Oh I also got the coveted cover story for the magazine and my second feature for the second magazine that I recently started working for. For a writer, the cover clip is A BIG DEAL. Needless to say, I think I’ve earned it. I’ve freelanced for this magazine for more than four years now but to give me the cover?! Whoa. I have never made this much money writing before. I sometimes have to pinch myself to think that I am doing what I love to do and I am getting paid for it.

I should go into my archives and find a couple of “temp force” job entries. I was miserable at those jobs! Ugh. I couldn’t take it. I answered phones and just lost myself. I hated it. I just never thought I could really write for a career.

I am so blessed. Thank you God.

My next topic of (professional) blog is “Is your home a refuge?” I’ll be putting it up today and as always, love the feedback.

I want to thank all of my readers for actually being interested in reading my work blog. I really hope you guys will bookmark it and keep up with it. I am banking on your comments :) until I establish my local readership. Thanks again for your support. Funny how my blog friends are more supportive in this arena than my real-life friends. Not that they don’t support me, but by the 3rd time I had to even explain what a blog was..i was like fuhget it.

To be honest, I was really annoyed that most of my friends thought it was really no big deal because to me, it was HUGE. But they are not writers like us, eh? Yep, I was annoyed. They didn’t purposely mean to be like that, they just don’t get it I guess.

I am still amazed at how little people know about blogs.

I started this thing 4 years ago! Then again, maybe this is a great time for me to step into my professional blog and show them how it’s done. Shocked at how little people know about blogs. What’s up with that?

And again:) if you don’t have the link yet email me!!!

Ouchouchouch. Hugs are banned. I did not know the extent of my sun burn until late last night when I couldn’t sleep on my back. But on a side note, see all the little floaties in my picture? I could say perhaps it was the flash if one had been used, but in my world I like to think perhaps my sister is around:)

Beach Day!

April 14, 2007

I know I am slacking lately. I almost don’t expect people to even read anymore since I never post anymore. And forgive my writing…I am drained.

I had such a beautiful day with my children and niece today.

I woke up early and since my husband had to work, I thought…roadtrip! They- my children, step daughter and niece- were so giddy when I told them we would be driving to St. Augustine beach. I checked the weather forecast and a forecasted 89 degrees meant that I had the green light.

Stopped by Burger King for breakfast. (Every time I- and my kids- eat like that, I feel so guilty because I know it is such crap!) So I try to make it a rare occurence. The drive was beautiful. We stopped by this little freah fruit stand and bought a pint of farmer-fresh strawberries.

We then drove by the place my sister and I lived together for a few years. It is on the way to the beach. So everytime I make that trip, I think of her. I used to hate that, now I love it. I wasn’t sure if Dari would be up to it, but I try to keep my sister’s memory alive always. “Do you want to see where your mommy and I used to live?” I asked my niece. “Yeah!”

We drove by and I told her how we both lived in “that white house right there” when we were both pregnant. “I guess that means you and Christian lived there too- in our tummies.”

I had my classic rock on. I just love listening to the classics on warm, sunny days. That’s just me. Was singing along to La-la-la-la-Lola. And had the weirdest thought…if I have a girl, I’ll name her Lola. I love that name. Then thought..what am I thinking?! I am so done having kids. And then I thought..yeah, I’ll name her Lola.

Obviously, I’m losing it.

So…Eli’s first trip to the beach! What can I say? SAND EVERYWHERE! HE hated the water (a little too cold and maybe overwhelming) but loved playing in the sand and trying to eat every shell that captured his attention.

Mmmmm..strawberry juice dripping everywhere! Mixes great with sand. Just ask my mom. I got it all over her!!

I was so busy lathering up my own children with suntan lotion that, guess what? I forgot to put it on myself. I am burned because like so many moms, we forget to think about ourselves in the midst of kids.

The day was perfect. On the way home, we stopped at this diner and as I walked by the paper stand, I laughed so hard. Their cover story…you see the one. Wow. You know you live in a little hick town if your cover story is about Hay. Too funny.

I’m home now. Hubby is cooking for us and we are about to have our weekly family night. Good times.

It’s here!

Just kidding. I ran into him at Panera’s . I mean, how could you miss this guy? He was the sweeeetest thing! He signed my little reporter’s notepad (with a big smiley face) and then I backed off. These pictures were taken just a few hours before he announced his plans to go to the NBA and forfeit his senior year. Hey, did you know that his sister’s name is Yelena?

Insanity!

April 4, 2007

Just added these videos…not sure why they look so pixelated. And only when I get it up on Youtube. But oh well. Same camera as my other videos. I don’t have time to figure it out right now, but check it out…

University Avenue after the win…

In the O’dome after the win…

This one’s for Ben. Hahaha.

Lastnight, Gainesville was INSANE!

I was so happy to be in my home town, with my Gators and my friends for the National Championship game. I mean, I had to sit in sorry South Carolina to watch the last two championships and I was not a happy woman.

But lastnight I was!

My friend, Leslie and I decided we would go with the rest of the crazy Gator fans to the O’dome and it was wild!! At half time, Chris Leak came out. Here’s this guy who’s hotter than any other man I have ever seen in my life and he is so nice. He was overwhelmed by the crowd that at one point, I thought he would cry. And his message to us: Make wise decisions tonight. Be safe. I heart you, Chris Leak.

I could go on and on about lastnight…about the foreign guy in the yellow shirt who (after Chris spoke) came over to me (me..why do I attract them?) and said in very broken English: Who is this black guy you are cheering for?

“Chris Leak.” (Duh.)

“Who?”

And about seeing Dwight’s (from The Office) replica. Hahahahahah. He even had the Dwight-esque hair cut and stand and walk and wow, I had to get video just for you, Melissa.

And about the crowd..the crowd. After the game, the entire stadium moved into the streets of G-ville. I felt like I was being swept away in the crowd. It was raining beer. People were screaming. Everyone was so caught up in the moment.

We ended up at Salty Dog, and Leslie’s husband gets us ushered in like the VIP’s we are. hehe. The manager does gigs with him. After a drink and a shot (that’s all…) I was truly feeling the Gator Nation spirit. And just when Les and her hubby were ready to go home..guess who shows up to hang with me?!

My bro!

And my other brother. And all their crazy friends. We had a blast. My brother found a nice digital camera laying on the ground. But this is how I knew I was ready to go back to my life of normalcy and leave all the college days where they belong..in my past.

So I’m waiting for the bathroom and there is one other girl in there, too. She pulls her undies down (and I swear I saw it all! whoa) and pees right in the trash can, then says to me..Honey, can you get me some toilet paper?

But you know, I wouldn’t trade lastnight. I hung with my bro and his friends until about 3 a.m. Whoa. And today, I was feeling it. I didn’t even get drunk or anything. I am just…well, a 30-year-old momma with 3 kids. Lol.

GATOR NATION! WOOT!!

I know it’s blurry but I had to get a shot with the cop just to prove that they were drinking too. On the streets. See his cup? Isn’t that illegal or something? lol.

A little sample of the craziness we ran into lastnight.

Me and Les at Salty Dog. True.

Me and my brother couldn’t stop laughing at shorty over there. He looked like he was trying so hard (literally) to get this girl’s attention but she kept having to bend down to hear every word he said.

My bro is in the blue shirt. Those other guys are his crazy friends I vave known for years and years…Swerve (yes, that’s what we call him) and Brett.

Chris Leak at half time. My son is the mini-replica of him.
DWIGHT! He was all serious the entire game…lol.

Oh yes…how could I forget?! These ones are for all the readers who have ever said anything rude to me! And I have had my share. Now I would like to share something with you. May this image be seered in your brain forever! Muwahahahaha.
